DC Foodie

•September 2, 2008 • 1 Comment

So I started my new job today on K Street – yes, that’s right, the street notoriously known for housing lobbyists. I had an excellent first day – everyone is so great and laid back. The best part of my first day was going to DC Coast with my boss. I’ve only been to a few nice restaurants here in DC (I went to Mei N Yu Friday night for a friend’s birthday and that was pretty yummy) – but this one is my favorite restaurant thus far. I had the Crispy Softshell Crab ‘BLT’ – which came with capers and was served with sweet potato fries. I think this may be the most delicious meal I’ve had since I’ve been to DC! Yummmmmmmmm.

New Apartment Pictures!

We haven’t even been there a week, but we’ve already got a bunch set up. Take a look at our apartment…and our wonderful wall! This wall is probably my biggest accomplishment to date on the manual labor & home improvement front. Keep in mind I’ve never even picked a lawnmower. My side of the room is still a little sparse – I’m currently waiting on 3 boxes from home to arrive!

This breaks my heart.

This breaks my heart, boggles my mind, etc. – especially since the CDC is in Atlanta. I’m truly shocked that Georgia lost its funding.

Let’s let Ellen be the judge

One of my co-workers shared this video with me, which I think is absolutely hilarious. I am not Obama’s largest champion, but his dance moves far outshine McCain’s sad appearance on Ellen. If you recall, the Arizona Senator was left defenseless on the issue of gay marriage when he appeared on her show in May. While his comments about gays having unions for “tax purposes” were commendable, Ellen’s parallelism between the civil rights movement and the gay rights movement was right on point. You see, we have the Constitution for a reason. I oftentimes employ irriational reasoning (largely based on emotion) to validate my viewpoints. However, as safeguards of the Constitution, presidents do not enjoy this luxury, and our government should not have the ability to dictate what freedoms its citizens can and cannot enjoy ( e.g. in a perfect would, libertanism would fly with me ). Also, note: gays are not terrorists. They are not starving. They are not homeless. Well, some may be, but you get the point. Exert your efforts elsewhere.

I’m sad Corbin and I missed this one when we were in Milan. If only I could read Italian to decipher the menu…

So I’ve got to admit that I’m not wild and crazy about the designers on this season’s Project Runway. I find most of them annoying and talentless ( e.g. – Blane, Stella & Suede ). Thankfully, the worst of the bunch are disappearing one by one. Above all, I was severely disappointed after watching the challenge where the models picked the fabric. Those outfits were hideous!

However, there is one designer I think is particularly talented: Kenley. I think everything about her is absolutely adorable, right down to her uncontrollable laughter. I’d totally wear her all of her clothes, especially her win in episode 3, which went for $540 on Bravo’s Web site. I actually think $540 is a steal for a one-of-a-kind garment that appeared on national TV ( I say this, knowing that $540 is about half my paycheck. Ha!).

Love it!

I was never big on America’s Funniest Home Videos, but I think this is hilarious.

I’ve been stalking new posts on Craigslist like it’s my FTJ. I’m trying to score one of these for my apartment. I got one e-mail response back from a woman who is selling it for $50, so I hope it all works out!
